The C Beach Club, located in the heart of Bel Ombre, has become the first restaurant to receive the Green Key certification, an international eco-label awarded by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). This recognition, also validated by institutions such as the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), highlights tourist establishments committed to sustainable and environmentally friendly practices.
In line with Rogers Hospitality's commitment to sustainability through the "Now for Tomorrow" initiative, the restaurant employs local residents, actively contributing to the region's socio-economic development. This certification is a significant achievement for all the collaborators of C Beach Club, reflecting a year of dedicated effort. Dominique Rivet, the General Manager, shared his pride in this accomplishment:
"This is a great moment for all of us. This award reflects our deep commitment to a more sustainable future. It is not only a victory for the C Beach Club but for the whole team that worked hand in hand to make this a reality."
The C Beach Club has implemented a series of ambitious measures required to secure the Green Key certification and reduce its ecological impact:
• Rigorous waste management: Waste separation is now implemented by the restaurant’s team to allow effective recycling, and limit the amount sent to landfill.
• Drastic reduction of plastic use: Through collaborations with partners such as Plankton, the C Beach Club has adopted recyclable bottles. In addition, molasses straws are now used.
• Strict product labelling: Most cleaning products used on the premises are carefully labelled and separated to prevent contamination.
• Reduce food waste: In partnership with Foodwise, surplus food is now redistributed to those in need, thus minimising waste.
• Reusable takeout containers and packaging: The restaurant now uses reusable and biodegradable cardboard takeout boxes and containers, aiming to minimise single-use waste and lessen environmental impact.
• Focus on local sourcing products: C Beach Club prioritises local products as much as possible to support the regional economy and minimise the carbon footprint associated with imported goods.
The Green Key certification is part of a broader initiative by Rogers Hospitality to position the Bel Ombre territory as a leader in sustainable tropical living. This model of hospitality aims to blend luxury with environmental stewardship.
Congratulations to the entire C Beach Club team for this achievement, which opens the door to a commitment to a greener future for Mauritius.
