Recycling glass

Project overview:

Rogers Hospitality is committed to promoting environmental sustainability throughout its operations. One of the key components of its recycling program is the recycling of glass, including glass bottles and containers.

At Heritage Resorts, the waste management is overseen internally while at Veranda Resorts, it is outsourced by Green Impact. Both entities ensure that glass waste is responsibly collected and sent to Plankton Recycling Co-operative Society Ltd for recycling. In 2011, the Rogers Group significantly contributed to the establishment of this facility in Bel Ombre. The society collects glass bottles from companies and recycles them by grinding and transforming them into six aggregates used for different purposes.  This sustainable practice reduces reliance on traditional materials and promotes eco-friendly alternatives.

The partnership between Rogers Hospitality and Plankton Recycling extends beyond recycling alone. Both Veranda Resorts and Heritage Resorts actively participate in purchasing the recycled glass from Plankton. This recycled glass finds multiple applications within the resorts, promoting both sustainability and creativity. Here are three primary ways in which the recycled glass is utilised:

1. Backwash Filter for Swimming Pools: Recycled glass is used as a backwash filter for swimming pools. This innovative application not only enhances the efficiency of pool filtration but also demonstrates the environmental advantages of using glass media. By employing recycled glass, Rogers Hospitality saves water and reduces the need for chemical products, thereby contributing to a greener and more sustainable approach to pool maintenance.

2. Decorative Purposes: Another exciting use of recycled glass is for decorative purposes within the resorts. The unique texture and colours of the glass pieces blend well with artistic displays, adding a touch of elegance and eco-friendliness to the resort ambiance. By incorporating recycled glass into their decor, Veranda Resorts and Heritage Resorts showcase their commitment to sustainability while creating visually stunning environments for their guests to enjoy.

3. Glass Therapy: Recycled glass is also employed for therapeutic purposes. Veranda Resorts and Heritage Resorts recognise the calming and soothing effects of glass and have incorporated it into their therapy offerings. Whether as part of spa treatments or specialised relaxation sessions, the recycled glass enhances the overall wellness experience for their guests, promoting a sense of harmony with nature and a sustainable approach to well-being.

Our strategy:

Glass recycling is a crucial aspect of environmental preservation and waste reduction. By supporting this sustainable initiative through Heritage Resorts, the Rogers Group contributes to diverting glass waste from landfills, promoting a circular economy and reducing environmental impact. These efforts pave the way for a sustainable future and contribute to a cleaner planet.
